Orem Hampton Inn: We Love The Pot!

So I know that I have not posted for a few weeks but don't worry during my blog time out I have been working and have experienced more stories to share you all.
I knew I had already posted this story on my personal blog hollipocket.blogspot.com so I didn't want to re write it again on here. So I just copied and pasted it so thats why it seems if I am just sharing for the first time that I work in a hotel. Really I wrote this like 5 years ago. Hope you enjoy.

I work as a front desk agent at a hotel in Orem, Utah. The Orem Hampton Inn and Suites. And so I am at work one day, playing on the computer pretending like I am doing something important. Really half the time I'm not at all. And this guest comes down and says to me " I just want to tell you how much I enjoyed my stay." And my first thought is Oh well good. I am glad I dont have to listen to yet another whinning person who either 1. Has no hot water, 2. Did not get their wake up call, or 3. Anything else stupid and retarted they want to whine about just to piss me off. So I put on my fake smile and say well great I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. And the guest says.. " But there is just one thing that I would like to talk to you about.." Yup! Here it goes.. I knew it was to good to be true someone who isnt a pain in my ass who has something good to say to me and not some jack ass who is just looking for a free night" So I said to the guest " Okay whats that" And he goes.. " Now.. First of all I would like to know your name".. (okay creepy)... " My name is Holli.. ( Btw I wear a HUGE ASS name tag around my neck not really sure how you can miss it inless your going blind. Anyways so I say my name is Holli and the guest goes " Okay Holli..I really enjoyed my stay but I just thought I would let you know that... Well... Let me start off by saying sometimes I like to smoke THE POT." ( And he really did say THE POT... not just pot... but THE POT.) So Im standing there with my fake smile pretending like I care but when he said THE POT I kind of did start caring becuase this could be interesting... So the the stoner guest goes on to say " Sometimes I like to smoke THE POT.. and I just thought that I would let you know that... I found pot in my room when I checked in last night" So I am still just standing there like uhh well then you really DID enjoy your stay.. so I say to the guest " Oh my gosh Sir, I am so sorry about that I am not really sure how we could find out if it was a previous guest or where it came from I apologize for that that is completely un exeptable what can we do for you" The guest goes" No.. No its okay!! I took care of it! I smoke THE POT for you!!!.. Its okay!! I just thought I would let you know I was not offended by it but I could see how if someone who doesnt like to smoke THE POT like me would be offended by it.. So I smoked the pot for you to get rid of it just thoguht I would let you know.." ... The end... HAHAHA! Seriously thats a true story.... Gotta love those Stoners!

Ramen Noodles Your The One You Make My Bath Time So Much Fun

While working at the hotel  in Orem we had a lot of guests leave things behind that were a little shocking, or we would see things in their room that were a little scary and crazy. My mom started at the hotel as the Sales director and was in that position for a few years, and then she decided to transfer to being the executive housekeeper. Becuase she was in that department I was always told these crazy stories of things she would find in rooms. While she was cleaning a room one day she called down to the front desk. Ring Ring Ring...

Me: "Guest services this is Holli"
My mom: "HOBO!!" (thats my nickname in case you didn't know)
Me: "MOM??"
My mom : "You are not going to believe this."
Me: "What....."
My Mom: "The guest that checked out of room ___ left something in the jacuzzi tub".
Me: " Yeah I don't even want to know what it is."
My Mom: " Oh yes you do! They have completely FILLED the jacuzzi tub up with Ramen Noodles! Its completely FULL!!"

My first question what: " What kind of seasoning did they use?"

Hotel Tips

I have put together a list of things you should know, tips, whatever you want to call them for when you are a guest at a hotel. Now, I have not worked at a huge hotel like ones in Vegas or anything like that before. These are tips for smaller hotels, ones that take more business travelers then leisure guests. So these are tips for those kind of hotels. When it comes to huge 5000 rooms hotels.. I got nothing. BUT  Here is the most important thing you should know about any type of  hotel: NEVER PISS OFF THE FRONT DESK AGENT. HE OR SHE HAS THE ABILITY TO MAKE YOUR STAY MISERABLE OR WONDERFUL. THE NICER YOU ARE TO THEM THE BETTER THEY WILL TREAT YOU.

  • You do not need to come down to the front desk to check out. We already have your credit card on file, we took it when you checked in. You signed when you checked in. You got your receipt under the door around 3:00am the morning of your check out. You do not need to come down to the front desk and say " Yeah, hi I am ready to check out of room_" then I will say (while giving to a dirty annoyed look) " Did you get your receipt?" and you say "yes" Then that is your copy. You don't need to bring it down to me and show me. You don't need to sign it. You don't need to give me the keys... Just go. Thanks.
  • Your room keys do not save your personal information on them. Its impossible. There is no way for it to be saved or even coded on to your keys. That's all I'm going to say about that. Its stupid for anyone to even think that therefore its stupid for me to type about. Next...
  • There is no such thing as a "lost and found" department. You leave something in your room housekeeping will have it. Ask for housekeeping. You leave something at the pool, in the lobby, business center. Well hate to tell you, your shit outta luck.
  • If you had a problem with housekeeping, breakfast servers, maintenance whatever. Remember that the person standing behind the desk is not the person that caused the problem. They stand at the desk all day, they didn't forget to clean your room, they didn't make the pool to cold for your liking. However they are the person that can make things happen so that you leave happy when you check out. Giving you your money back, giving you more points on your reward card whatever it may be. Again, its very important not to piss off the front desk agent. Because I personally will treat the guests well if they have respect for the person who is helping them. To Guests that understand that I am just doing my job, and those who remember that I am not the one who caused your problem. Be nice to me I'll be nice to you. Be an asshole to me, Ill be an asshole to you.
  • When you call a hotel, listen to what the say when they answer the phone. When I answer the phone and say " Thanks for calling ____ this is Holli how can I help you?" Its really annoying when you answer back " Uh yeah hi is this _____?" annoying.
  • If a travel agent books your room for you and when you arrive at the hotel and say your room is a smoking room when you wanted a non smoking room. Remember that your TRAVEL AGENT booked the room. The hotel does not even see your reservation until the day you check in. We did not move you to a smoking room we don't even open up your reservation until you are physically standing in front of us checking in. And more times then not if the hotel is close to selling out and all the have is a smoking room the agent is going to book you into it just so that you at least have a room. And a lot of times the Agent does not tell you its a smoking room. We hate to have to be the ones to break it to you but we also hate to be the ones to be yelled at because of a mistake done by your agent. And what have we learned so far.. Be nice to the front desk agent. They can help you.
  • Just because you booked your room 4 months in advance does not mean you are entitled to a 8:00am check in. It does not matter when you booked your room. Check in time is at 3:00 ( Or whatever the check in time may be depending on the hotel. ) There is a reason hotels have check in times. Housekeeping needs time to clean rooms from the people that were in it the night before. If the hotel has rooms ready that are the room type that you are booked into they will check out in. But getting pissed off about it is not going to make check in time 8:00am
This may sound a little bitchy and if some of you are thinking " I'm the guest I'm right now matter what" Let me tell you something in hotels the customer is not always right. Again you be nice to me I'll be nice to you. You be mean to me, I will be mean to you..but in a way that seems like I'm being hospitable.  =)

Chemical Burn!

I have been getting a lot of messages from people saying how excited they are for this new blog of mine. I can't lie. I am pretty excited too. I know I needed a good story to start off this blog off right and I don't think that anyone but my family members have heard this story. So, I hope that this will give everyone an idea of just how much crazy and hilarious stuff I have experienced while working in a hotel. Here we go.. ( Just a reminder.... these stories are completely true.)

While working at the hotel in Orem I can't even tell you all the maintenance issues there were. Actually.. wait I can tell you... and I will! Just keep reading my blog!

Anyway, one of the big problems the hotel experienced was with the pool. Now, even though I am sure everyone who is going to read this blog knows of which hotels I have worked at and where but just in case I start getting blog stalkers (which I hope I do!) I'm not mentioning the name of this particular hotel because I thought I'd spare their reputation. But I am sure the name will come out sooner or later. This particular hotel would like to wait until the very last minute they could to fix things. And more times then not... they would just not fix them at all. I don't know if its because the owners didn't think it was necessary to have hot water... or working ice machines or whatever it may be or if they just liked giving money back to people who knows? .. Anyways, Lots of issues. This particular problem was that the chlorine and whatever chemicals were being put in the swimming pool and hot tube were either the wrong ones or there was to much of them being put in. It got to the point where we were having to give people money for them to go buy new swim suites because our pool was bleaching theirs. I would see people going to the pool with a bright pink bathing suit on and walk out with a yellowish white color suit on. And everytime we got a call or complain about it I had to act like it was the first time hearing about it when really it was like the 147th time hearing about it. " Oh ma'am I am so sorry, Thank you for bringing this to our attention we had no idea, I will be sure to tell our maintenece engineer about this right away." Hang up.... "Uh yeah manager we got ANOTHER call". Manager: "Oh ok go write it on the log." ( That was their answer to everything broken.... they wanted us to write down every time we got a complaint about it... write it on the log. not that they ever did anything with this "log" to fix the problem they just wanted us to write it down." )

A few weeks are going by and we are still getting complaints about this chemical issue in the pool and hot tub and of course nothing is being done about it they don't even have a plan for it. Nothing. They don't care. Until one day the owners called the hotel to speak with the general manager. The owners told the general manager that the hotel was being sued. What for you ask? A guest that had stayed at the hotel with his son who both used the hot tub filed a lawsuit against the hotel because they both received very serious chemical burns on their testicles. No where else. Just their testicles. They were suing for medical expenses and pain and suffering. And even after 2 guys had their manhood burnt off .....They still didn't do anything about the problem.

"Welcome To The BLOG hotel, I Hope You Enjoy Your Stay"

Welcome To The Hotel Blog. Thanks for Staying with us. Just to make you aware of somethings you may find here: Lots of laughs, Lots of stories that make you say aloud "Are you freaking kidding me?!?" and a TON of stories from me as a hotel employee and as a hotel guest. So enjoy your stay here, and should you have any comments or complaints please leave it as a comment on the post. Thank you.

Heres the thing. I am 24 years old and I know only a few things that are certaint about me. ONE: That I am a sucker for accents. TWO: That I have FABULOUS eyelashes. And THREE: I know hotels. And that I have stories about hotels and guests that will blow. your. mind. Recogonize!

I have alot stories about Hotels that I have worked in as a front desk agent and dealing with crazy guests and the crazy things they do, ask for, and happen to leave in their rooms. I have stories stories about other co workers I have worked with and their craziness. I even happen to have a few stories about hotels that I have stayed in. So, I decided it was time to start a blog to share these with the world. Some stories you may have already heard from my other blog http://www.hollipocket.blogspot.com/ but some of them have been locked in the Holli Vault but now just like Disney I am releasing them from the Vault! Some of the names of people and names of the hotel have been changed for their reputation and innocence... and well because I like to make up names for peopole. However some of their names need to be used to get the word out about just how AWFUL they are.

I am really excited about this blog! I have so many stories to share that hopefully everyone will find entertaining! And some maybe even find it helpful while picking a hotel they can read about which ones not to stay in! Yay for my hotel blog!
